We are concerned about the videographer getting in the way during our ceremony and reception! How do you handle this concern?
I always try to be as unobtrusive as possible. I never use lights during a ceremony and only use indirect, reflected lighting at the reception!
What kind of camera do you use?
I shoot with a very high-end 3 chip digital camera!
Do you bring backup equipment?
Always!
Do you shoot all weddings yourself, or do you farm them out to other videographers?
Every job that I book is shot and edited by myself!
I've heard that small wireless microphones can help get good sound during a wedding ceremony. Do you use them?
Yes. I always try to use the best equipment for the job!
Do you interview guests at the reception?
I never approach your guests and ask them questions. News reporting techniques are far too intrusive for a wedding! If you wish, I can make a microphone available to your guests during the reception so that they can make a well wish... It's your call!
How do you dress?
It's my goal to blend in with the guests so as not to call attention to myself. Usually this means wearing a conservative suit. If it is a black tie wedding, I wear a tuxedo.
Do you use a lot of special effects?
Although the editing software I use can create just about any special efect there is, I am a firm believer that good video should be able to stand on its own merits. I never use "special effects" just for the sake of using them. In the Special Edited Package I make use of transitions, still shots, and slow motion and other effects where they are esthetically called for!
What happens after you are through with the shooting? How do you edit?
I will take all video shot and download it onto a high-end Mac computer where the editing will be performed using Final Cut Pro software. The finished video will then be written out directly to DVD.
How long does it take to get my DVD's?
Depending on the season, the turn around time ranges from 2 to 5 weeks on average.
What is the main difference between the $1200 Complete Wedding Coverage and the $1600 Special Edited Wedding Coverage?
The Complete Wedding Coverage package is shot in documentary style with a minimum of transition effects. The Special Edited Wedding Coverage package will be more highly edited and will be enhanced by more transition effects. It also concludes with a slow motion recap of the day's events set to music. Both packages are delivered on DVD and have the same high picture quality.
Can you include growing up pictures at the beginning?
Yes. The average charge for about 25 growing up pictures set to music is $100.
I saw some special features on a wedding video that I very much liked. Do you limit yourself to just the features mentioned in each package?
I am always happy to honor special requests. There are very few videographers that have technical capabilities that I don't have. If it can be done, chances are that I can do it!
Lastly, what makes Charles Richardson's work so special?
In a word talent! Although I use the best equipment, equipment is not the key to my success. Good videography depends on skillful camerawork, experience, timing, and most importantly the ability to translate live action into a story that will be fun to watch!
